The Karate Boy and I had such a wonderful Sunday today. We were looking for a cultural adventure, so off we went to lower Manhattan to the Egg Rolls & Egg Creams Festival. Accompanying us was Berry Nice, Karate Boy’s class mascot. Every weekend, each child in his class gets to take home Berry Nice for the weekend. This is the last weekend of the school year, we were so excited to have Berry Nice with us on our Sunday adventure.
“ Experience the eggs-traordinary! Chinese opera and acrobatics, klezmer music, Yiddish and Chinese language lessons, mah jongg, scribal arts, food and folk art demos, crafts, synagogue tours, and more! Don’t miss New York City’s best block party, a cross-cultural celebration of the Jewish and Chinese communities of our Lower East Side/Chinatown neighborhood.” ~ Museum at Eldridge Street
Once at the festival, the first thing we came across was a stand selling what else? Egg Rolls & Egg Creams of course! It was an interesting combination. Then again, that is what is so amazing and wonderful about New York City. Different cultures coming together and celebrating their differences. This festival was created by the Museum at Eldridge Street, which presents the culture, history and traditions of the great wave of Jewish immigrants to the Lower East Side, drawing parallels with the diverse cultural communities, like Chinatown.
I enjoyed the festival as much as Karate Boy did. I am presenting my photo diary of the day. It explains it all visually, what we saw and did at the Egg Rolls & Egg creams Festival. Hope you enjoy the photographs.
