I hope everyone out there had a safe and fabulous Memorial Day Weekend!!! We sure did enjoy ours tremendously. On Sunday, The Epicurean Man, Karate Boy and I decided to take my Granny ( who has been on holiday with us for over a month now, visiting from Trinidad) to see Central Park . After coming to New York City over a dozen times in her 80 years of life, I was surprised to know that Granny had never been to Central Park. Clearly this was an adventure to be had for Granny… who at 80 and fabulous, was up to the physical task of navigating the expanse of Central Park.
As soon as we entered, Granny was blown away. It was an extremely hot, sunny and glorious Sunday afternoon. We all four took a leisurely walk through the park. First stop for Karate Boy, was a ride on the famous Central Park Carousel. Then after he and his Dad played ” rock, paper & scissors” on the Great Lawn . After we came across a roller skating disco, some folks playing beach volleyball, and an amazing group of Cuban guys jamming on their drums. Then finally we were stopped in our tracks by the beauty of the lakes and the row boating . The sun was beginning to set, and everything took on a pink hue. It is hard to phantom at times, even the most jaded New Yorkers, how beautiful Central Park is, brimming with adventure and full of activities. All this literally at our finger tips, and at NO COST… right here in the middle of New York City.
Four hours of frolicking through Central Park, we all agreed that we deserved a delicious dinner and the grown ups, much needed cocktails. We decided to head to Rosa Mexicana in Lincoln Center. Granny opted for sangria, The Epicurean Man and I had their signature margaritas. Then we all wolfed down the yummiest lump crab-meat enchiladas, followed by a fabulous tres leches cake. Karate Boy could not help but plant a huge kiss on his Dad’s cheek for such a wonderful Sunday.
On Memorial Day Monday, we were awoken by stormy weather, torrential rain. Yikes! what was going to happen to our planned barbecue later? Lucky for us, by noon, the rain and clouds went away and the sunshine came through with a vengeance. I took Karate Boy to his friend Jamie’s birthday party at Klub 4 Kidz in Williams-burg Brooklyn. A fabulous indoor play space and perfect for birthday parties. Karate Boy spent some exciting moments on the rock climbing wall. Happy 6 th Birthday Jamie!!! Back home, Karate Boy changed and then we headed to the sprinklers in the playground for an hour of fun. Later in the afternoon, we finally got around to barbecuing. The Epicurean Man cooked the most delicious smoky short ribs, I prepared home-made hamburgers, and for Karate Boy…hot dogs of course. My hubby also made us one of our favorite cocktails for the summer named …. Dark & Stormy. Granny loved it!!!! It was a great weekend and now let the fabulousness of Summer begin !!!!!
