Post image for Mix-tape Sunday- FAME

I have told this story before, about the only reason I was so hell bent with going to New York City for College, was because of my teenage obsession with the television series Fame, in which I truly believed everyone danced in the streets and on top the roofs of cars. Fame originally produced between 1982 and 1987. The show was based on the 1980 motion picture of the same name. Using a mixture of drama and music, it followed the lives of the students and faculty at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts. Although fictional, it was based heavily on the actual Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York.

I was recently invited to participate in an up-coming event called ” Dancing with the Bloggers”, each blogger will be paired with a professional dancer to rehearse the dance of their choice… I am contempalting between Tango and Salsa. My emotions are a mix of excitment and dread at the thought of dancing in front of hundreds of people, it however has brought back wonderful high school memories, of dance classes and performances with my cousin La Toya and friends growing up in Trinidad. Face-book which is superb for being tagged photographs by old friends, some awful and some like in case of the one I have in my header above, well appreciated and cherished. It is a compilation of a few photos of myself, La Toya and friends dancing in high school. Thanks Abigail for the lovely photographs.

Below are my two video selections for Mix-tape Sunday. They are my two favorite’s featuring Erica Gimpel aka Coco ( I swore I was Coco as a teenager) and Debbie Allen. I hope you enjoy them this Sunday as much as I do.

” Fame” performed by Erica Gimpel

” I Still Believe in Me” performed by Debbie Allen and Erica Gimpel
