Halloween is upon us once again, last year I had ample time to really plan out our costumes and events to attend. This year my calender is beyond hectic with work and I barely had time to even order Karate Boy’s costume. My son and I buckled down last week to choose what he wanted to be this year ( last year he was a Star Wars Storm Trooper) and after a few hours the little guy made the decision and it was perfect…. A Ninja-Snake Eyes to be exact from G.I
Of course we wanted to test out his costume before Halloween so I searched high and low for the ultimate pre-Halloween adventure for us to embark on a beautiful warm Sunday afternoon. Ghouls & Ghourds bacchanalia at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. The event started from 12 pm ending at 6.30 pm with a long line-up of events and musical performers like Slavic Soul Party, Suzi Shelton, Moona Luna. During the course of the day there were tons of hands-on workshops for little goblins to try such as: Monster on a Leash, the Egg Shaker Shack, and Pretend Petting Zoo, etc. etc. There also were collaborative workshops like The Pumpkin Patchwork Project and the World Wide (Spider) Web, where everyone can pitch in to create large-scale crafts!
Karate Boy and I choose to attend the latter part of the festivities in the afternoon from 4 pm…The festival of vegetables, and to top it all off the annual costume parade and drum circle lead by Maracatu NY, http://www.maracatuny.com/ and giant stilt-walkers, larger than life puppets and raucous music! It was insane fun, the costume parade and drum circle lead everyone around the gardens with heightened excitement. All the adorable kids and parents came out to celebrate Halloween surrounded by the beauty of the gardens. Karate Boy made new friends, he took his Ninja costume seriously and made sure to pose for every photo taken of him to my delight. It was such a beautiful, warm fall afternoon at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens with my little guy. I HEART NEW YORK CITY. Hope you enjoy my photo diary of our pre-Halloween adventure.
