Post image for Playdates & Fashion Shows

Fashion week, the spring collection for 2011 is upon us. I had insane fun with The Epicurean Man, James and Luca during Fashion’s Night Out this past Friday. I received a few invites to some top designer shows, Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Tracy Reese, J Mendel, unfortunately they were all early shows . My little guy The Karate Boy had just started his first week of kinder-garten. Yes I could have had some-else drop him off and pick him up from school, but Karate Boy only wanted his mummy to do it.  So did not get to really do fashion week as planned, but I had the most insane fun hanging with Karate Boy on many play-dates with his friends and made some new mummy friends as well.

Last night I was able to make the Nathan Jenden spring collection for 2011. It was fabulous. Earlier in the day, Karate Boy and I had the most fun play-date with his buddy Calvin and his mum Laurice. Laurice and I were trying to steer the boys to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, the boys instead insisted on the playground( we mums dread this at times). The boys won and well it turned out to be a great play-date and a beautiful fall day. After 2 hours of playground fun, we headed over to our favorite cafe Urban Vintage for what else? Gigantic chocolate chip cookies of course and cappuccinos for two tired mums.

After the play-date, I dropped Karate Boy home to our nanny Nicole and it was a mad dash to get my hair done. I had been so hectic all week, looking dreary with a matted head of hair. I felt just having my hair flat ironed for the night would be the one thing to make me feel a bit more stylish. It helped and  I felt pretty. So what did I wear?  A Gucci black dress, La Rok sequined jacket and Calvin klien shoes ( i choose these shoes because they are high heels but with a grip for the cobble streets of the meat-packing district). Feeling fabulous, if only for this night, I was off to meet The Epicurean Man and friends, James, Luca, Seville and Sam at the Nathan Jenden show. The Adventurista was invited to the show as a guest blogger, so it was fun to have access to the back-stage and take photographs of the madness that happens , getting the models hair and make-up done.

Now for a little biography about Nathan Jenden

“In addition to his duties as creative director at Diane Von Furstenberg,( this fall he retires from this position). Nathan Jenden has designed his own namesake label since 2005. Presenting for the first time in New York for the fall 2006 season, the London native showed androgynous-looking women’s wear with equestrian flourishes, like jodhpurs tucked into boots, draping capes, and ruffled blouses peeping out of sharp tuxedo jackets. The label, which now shows in London, has yet to find a signature like the wrap dress, but an eighties spirit—like in the evening wear with big bustling bows for fall 2008, or the short-sleeve suit ensembles in popping hues for spring 2009—is consistent.
Nathan Jendens Spring 2010 collection the designer stuck to his simple, classic structure while throwing oddly shaped silhouettes into the mix for good measure. His celebrity clients include Madonna, Selma Blair, Thandie Newton, Leona Lewis, Sandra Oh .

The show was fabulous,  the theme was from the movie ” The Wiz” the Diana Ross/Michael Jackson version. The runway was painted to look like the yellow brick road. All the models wore signature  red, glitter high heels like Dorothy did. His spring 2011 collection is beautiful, colorful, he had different concepts working. Bright colors, very short  flouncy skirts, gorgeous structured, tailored pants, beautiful long evening dresses, safari style jackets. I found his collection wearable for most of us, well minus the super short mini skirts. I had such a fantastic time. Nathan Jenden two kids were there, his son was so adorable running around pre-show in his spider-man costume. The highlights of the show, besides seeing the collection was sitting 3 chairs away from Diane Von Furstenberg. After the show, The Epicurean Man introduced me to Miss Jay Alexander himself ( from America’s Next Top Model). he is divine, hilarious and simply fabulous. Miss Jay , promises to come over to our home for dinner and  I promised to make him my famous bruschetta. I hope you enjoy my photo diary of my night at the Nathan Jenden , 2011 Spring Collection, but first I must start with the cutest photos of Karate Boy and Calvin on their playdate.

Nice entry as always Adventurista!! One of the things that peeves me with high fashion is that so often transference from runway to the “catwalk that is my life” lol is almost none existent but this collection definitely does not suffer from that – the pieces are very versatile and really I wasn’t sure what to expect from NJ’s first collection after DVF as previously he’s either been teenage angst goth or Summervale light. I still remember the bow glasses ! He will continue to grow I am sure.
Ms Jay needs to meet me – I am so jealous of you. She is my New York and “fabulous” sister!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Gayle, I did have so much fun. Look out for more adventures from The Adventurista.

I have two camera’s a canon rebel, but the one I have been using the last couple of months is my new baby the olympus pen. Love it, small can fit into any little bag. I do not use FLASH at all, to create a moody look. It may look darker some photos but it will always look moody and very NYC. I do have a prime lens, super fast .

Anna,

Miss Jay is so fabulous. Shall I cook him a Bill Granger recipe, when he does make it over for dinner? I think maybe yes.
