Since becoming a mum as well as recently turning 40, I must admit my energy levels are not quite like they used to be. Yet I make sure not to surrender to such things like low energy levels and just make it mandatory to make time for fun adventures with friends and The Epicurean Man. I find these mini ” fabulous adventures” big and small gives my life as a mum and wife an added dimension. The Epicurean Man, his publicist James and Luca, a fashion aficionado in his own right as well as James boyfriend, were my partner’s in crime last night ,navigating through major department stores as well as boutiques during Fashion’s Night Out.
This years Fashion’s Night Out was energetic, wild and full of fashion. It was a night of some serious champagne and celebrity fueled shopping at all the major retailers across the city. There were cocktails, treats like massages, guest appearance by major celebrities of every genre. Jessica Alba, Janelle Monae, and Serena Williams at Ralph Lauren in Soho…Charlize Theron at Dior…Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at their Elizabeth and James pop-up shop on Hudson St…Bryan Adams playing a set at Calvin Klien…Gwen Stefani selling fragrances from a truck in Soho…Mary J Blige and Sarah Jessica Parker at Bergdorf Goodman…Jennifer Lopez, Diddy and Neil Patrick Harris atMacy’s Herald Store… Vouge Editor, Anna Wintour at Macy’s, Ralph lauren, Oscar de la Renta’s boutique as well as many other stores. The list goes on and on. New York City was on fire last night. I personally did not see all of these celebrities last night, we were dashing trough event after event at lightening speed, but even then it felt like forever to get from one store to another.
My evening started out with a lovely late lunch with a dear mummy friend of mine Cindy, she is originally from my home-land Trinidad and lives in Long Island. We met at a sexy french bistro Le Express on Park Avenue, we sipped on french 75 cocktails, ate yummy onion soup, crab cakes, fries, mascarpone cheesecake and cappuccinos.
At 6 pm I took her with me to meet The Epicurean Man before she headed to meet her significant other for dinner. We popped into the new www.hotelgansevoort.com on Park Avenue. I wanted to show Cindy the new sexy pool roof-deck. Cindy was off and The Epicurean Man, James, Luca and I headed to our fist stop Henri Bendel. It was packed and full of shoppers and events throughout all floors of the store. We headed straight to meet socialite and actress on the show The City… Olivia Palermo. Luca is like obsessed with her. After saying hi to her, we headed to the floor with the VIP champagne bar. A few glasses and we were off to Bergdorf Goodman. En route Luca ran into yet another person he admires, super-model of the moment Erin Wasson.
In a taxi heading downtown to the Ace Hotel we spotted a black SUV and James immediately saw Anna Wintour was in the truck, I kid you not. James exclaims in a shriek to the taxi driver ” FOLLOW THAT TRUCK” . Only in New York City. At the Ace Hotel, the line to see hot designer of the moment Alexander Wang was so long and dramatic, we opted to enjoy all the gourmet food trucks outside the hotel. We took some time to partake in hitting the different trucks and it was some of the yummiest food I have ever eaten.
Tummy’s full it was off to Bond street downtown Manhattan to the Bond carnival. It was full of fashionista’s and I marveled at all the different styles and personalities. Our last stop for the night was to visit our dear friend Seville at the Patricia Field store. her fabulous jewelry line is being featured there. I ran into trans-sexual icon Amanda Lepore, who graciously struck a diva pose for me. My feet were becoming numb at this point in my 5 inch heels, The Epicurean Man and I decided to hail a taxi and head home. We passed by this amazing graffiti mural , I asked my wonderful hubby if I can take a photo of him, can I stage him? He is so supportive and obliged, I also took a photo of some eccentric ladies in front of the mural as well. It was a fantastic night, an adventure for sure. I can’t wait for next year’s 2011 Fashion’s Night Out.
