Today I had a Wild, Guiltless Wednesday. The weather-man had been forecasting days ago how beautifully sunny Wednesday was going to be. This put my plan in motion. My hubby and I are member’s ( after a 2 year wait for board approval) of the exclusive www.sohohouseny.com , and I have been taking full advantage of all the benefits that come along with it’s membership.
“In the heart of New York’s hyper-trendy Meatpacking District. This converted warehouse is part private members’ club, part swish hotel, and shot to fame shortly after opening when it was featured in an episode of Sex and the City. It still has a glamorous, celebrity-friendly vibe, as well as 24 beautiful bedrooms. Both Sarah Jessica Parker and Candace Bushnell (original author of the columns and book) are members.” Telegraph, London.
The Soho House has a very elegant, fabulous feel and you immediately feel transported once inside. They are very particular about members following the rules, hence a two day ” work-shop on being a member of The Soho House” I kid you not. One of these rules are NO Camera’s allowed. The Mad-Mummy photographer that I am was able to sneak and take a few pictures with my shitty cell phone camera ( sorry for how they look)
Soho House was featured prominently in the television program Sex and the City as the exclusive Manhattan rooftop pool club that even Samantha Jones was escorted out of.
“The New York City summer heat is driving Samantha crazy, but equally frustrating is her inability to be granted access to SoHo, an exclusive club that features a fabulous swimming pool. Luckily for Sam, she finds a misplaced ID card that grants her access to the club, so long as she doesn’t mind answering to the name Annabelle Bronstein. Unfortunately, a SoHo employee blows the lid off the deception, causing Samantha to beat a hasty retreat back into the sweltering Manhattan streets.” Taken from Episode 84
Surprisingly they shun ” suits’ (men dressed in suits), and like it’s members to be very casual, flip flops even. Though since I have been going, I have yet to see someone in a flip flop. But casual dress is rampant at The Soho House. As I stated earlier on, my plan was in motion to play hookie with another yummy mummy on this gloriously sunny Wednesday and head over to the roof-top pool by 10 am in the morning. Our little darlings safely and happily at pre-school, it led way to a perfectly Guiltless day.
What a wild Wednesday it was, we headed up to the pool at the Soho House, 10 am on the dot, dressed in our bikinis under our sundresses. Immediately we sunked down onto two super comfy day beds and lounged in the sun. Chatting away about how good it felt to have this little stay-cation ( our next one planned will be at the public pool in Brooklyn – no membership needed woo hoo). Jannie my guest and ultimate yummy mummy and I sipped away on these delicious but slightly deadly coconut martinis…no worries we were sober by mid-day. We munched on cobb and caesar salads that were so delicious. After lingering in the sun for a few hours, getting more tanned by the minute, we both dived into the pool and what a refresher. Laughing silly like two little school-girls, it was just a great mid-day escape. We were both back in Brooklyn in time to pick up our kids from school. Jannie hung out with her daughter Severan at the sprinklers in the playground. Karate Boy and I went to Chucky Cheese, the arcade and we had a blast shooting spiders and racing sport’s cars. A perfect Guiltless, Wild , Wednesday.
