sexandthecitymovie.com has finally arrived this Thursday. I know everyone is talking about the movie, blogging about the series, the sex, the ladies…The Clothes.
I am going to talk about Chris Noth aka Mr Big. Not his history about the fact that he attended the prestigious Yale School of Drama. A veteran of film and television, and that he is probably best known for his work on Law and Order and HBO’s Sex and the City, the latter of which featured him as the charming but  untrustworthy Mr. Big, boyfriend/bad habit of the series’ heroine, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker).
I am going to tell the story of how I first met Chris. It was many , many years ago. I was walking down the street in the East Village, when I was approached by a striking tall gentleman. He asked me if I was from NYC since I seemed a bit out of sorts with the environment. I asked him what did that mean? …” you seem very exotic”..” thanks, yes I  originally am from Trinidad & Tobago”..
The small but brief chit chat led to an invitation to dinner. And so began our courtship, exciting, sweet, adventurous. Chris introduced me to the underground jazz scene in New York City. To intimate bistro’s, art galleries in Soho and we had the best of times. I was always aware by the dozens of fans that ambushed him while we were out, how adored he was. At times it freaked me out, but mostly I was amused.
Chris called me ” kid” just like  he does Carrie in Sex & The City, but that is the only comparison I would link him to Mr Big. My memories of Chris was that he was very down to earth, loved to talk about his travels to exotic lands and show off his huge art collections from Indonesia, India, Bali. And he loved Jazz.
We dated for a few months and well it was an amicable end, as much as I loved his world, I was not ready to abandoned mine entirely. And over the years we had kept in touch. I spent time with his girl-friend Tara ( now the mother of their son) showing her apartments around the City. Last time I saw Chris , I was in Soho with The Epicurean Man , pregnant with the Karate Boy, belly huge, Chris patted my bump and offered me his sincere congratulations. Now he is a dad himself and I am so happy for him. I am not a huge fan of Sex & The City the series, we shall see the movie this Thursday with friends, just as we did the first one. Making a huge event of the night, movies, dinner, cocktails. And just like the first movie, a smile will probably come across my face when Chris comes onto the screen.
There goes my Sex & The City Post.
