One of the The Guiltless favourite things to do is to make cocktails. At least one night a week The Epicurean Man and I put the Karate Boy to bed and we head down to the kitchen and have the most fun concocting cocktail recipes. Tamara and her hubby host once a month these fabulous cooking dinner’s ( with a private chef) and we all get together to make cocktails to have with dinner.
Tamara suggested for our first Guiltless cocktail recipe we should prepare together the Mojito. Considering this month I am throwing a Havana themed 40th Birthday Bash for myself, I was only too happy to oblige. There are countless recipes for the Mojito (pronounced moh-HEE-toh), but the version below is for the one Hemingway himself enjoyed at the Mojito’s place of birth: La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, Cuba.
Cuban Mojito recipe
the original authentic recipe from Havana Cuba
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Havana Club white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda
Yummy the original way, recipe above is courtesy of one of my favorite haunts a restaurant called www.mojitocubancuisine.com
Today Tamara and I decided to add a little twist to the original recipe. We came up with the idea to throw in blackberries, raspberries and lychees. Also we used a dark rum instead of a white rum. Yum. Hope you Mum’s and Dad’s like it. It was quite tasty and perfect for the warm sunny day’s ahead.
